About Laura
Laura D. Hernandez is a dynamic and passionate leader currently serving as Mayor Pro Tem for the vibrant City of Port Hueneme! With an impressive career that includes 16 years as the Manager for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Services, Laura has been at the forefront of emergency management for over 30 years. She has played a crucial role in navigating over 20 major disasters and was instrumental in the creation of the Statewide Emergency Management Mutual Aid Assistance (EMMA) Program!
After retiring, Laura dove into her consulting business, sharing her expertise in training and emergency planning with local businesses and governments. As an Adjunct Professor, she inspires the next generation at Cal State University Channel Islands and Cal State University Northridge. A dedicated community member, Laura also volunteers for local non-profits such as the Ventura County Library Foundation, Food Share, National Latino Police Officers Association, and the League of Women Voters of Ventura County. As a Port Hueneme resident she enjoys yoga, reading, art, and nurturing Monarch butterflies in her home alongside her two beloved rescue cats!
